Orthotist

What is an Orthotist?

An Orthotist is a person who designs, makes and prescribes braces for the human body. They essentially give back the power of movement to their patients. They do this by using the latest technology to design and then make prostheses to fit their patient. The prostheses tend to be made out of mouldable plastic fibre which are easy to shape and then harden.

An Orthotist's job is very creative and different everyday. One day you could be looking at what's wrong with a patient's leg movement, but the other, you could be casting a mould of that same leg! It really varies but that's what makes it an exciting job.

It's an ideal job for anyone who wants to work in a medical environment and treat patients but who thinks their skills lean more on the artistic and crafting side. Orthotists work closely alongside Physiotherapists, as well.

However, being an Orthotist (amazing as it is), does come with some requirements like any other job. On the following pages is all the information you need to know about becoming an Orthotist. From GCSEs needed to why you should become one to a video summary of what you need to know.
