If you're considering an Orthotist as a career, then you are probably thinking: "What do I need to become one?". Below, all the skills and grades needed to work as an Orthotist is listed below.
Personality Traits
Not everything is about physically treating your patients. You also need to make them feel happy about their brace or orthoses. You should be able to communicate very well and be kind and understanding with patients, especially with children! Being practical, hands-on and open to problem solving are wanted for Orthotists as well.
GCSEs
Yes, there are also a few exams too! To become an Orthotist you would need a minimum of five GCSEs (or the equivalent), including maths, English and a science. It would also be advisable to choose other useful subjects for this career such as IT, Wood Work (for making braces for the body) and Biology as your chosen science.
A Levels and Then What?
Well, for A Level, you'd need to apply for and achieve a minimum of three A Levels including Maths and a Science (again, Biology would be advisable).

Afterwards, you would need to apply for an approved Bachelor degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics at university.

If available, degree apprenticeships in Prosthetics and Orthotics are highly recommended as they can boost your chance of getting hired and give you lots of experience.
