More About Orthotists

Why Become a Orthotist and is it Worth it?

An Orthotist is an amazing career since its roles vary from moulding to communicating with patients to analysing and measuring different body parts. It has a nice atmosphere to work in as you end up seeing certain patients throughout a few years and can form close relationships with them.

Being an Orthotist is definitely worth it as you get to wake up everyday knowing that you're making a difference in people's lives and helping them improve their mobility.

Annual Payments:

The annual salary for an Orthotist really varies on how much experience you have and how many patients you are treating. But on average, Orthotists get paid £16000 to £22000.

The Daily Routine of an Orthotist:

Your day at work begins at a hospital ward where you see if any patients need your help. There is a lady there who has sprained her wrist and needs a wrist immobiliser to help her move her fingers without pain while she recovers from her injury. You find one that is her size and show her how to put it on and take it off properly.

You see several more patients including a boy whose leg brace is too small and needs a new one casted and a man who's had a stroke recently and needs a shoulder brace made to stop his shoulder dislocating.

After a short lunch break, you head to the nearest mobility centre where you first see a girl with cerebral palsy who's been your patient for three years whose leg splints have broken and needs a repair.

Your last patient of the day is a man whose walking has changed since you last saw him so you need to take a look at his leg muscles. You notice that his muscles are too tight so you give him some stretches to practice to loosen them a bit.
